This isn’t a movie preview and won’t contain any spoilers for those that haven’t yet finished reading the Harry Potter series.
My sister had purchased tickets to the midnight screening of Deathly Hallows Part 2 which opened today (13 July across Australia).
In the megaplex that I saw DH2, it appeared that every cinema was screening this one movie.
I loved looking at various peoples costumes (1 in 3 persons seemed to be in some form of costume) and marvelling at the effort many had put towards
their creations. Tweens, teenagers, college kids, parents, and grandprents were all there.
There were a few false starts - damn you previews! The Twilight movie preview got booed at - no surprises there.
The audience in the theatre didn’t hold back. We laughed, cheered, clapped and cried with each pivotal moment.
**spoiler alert** The awkward hug scene got a good laugh. **End spoiler alert**
The megaplex showed DH1 first (separate ticket). It still brought out the emotions of some people. Two young teenaged girls next to me were crying
into their kleenex, wailing, “…Dobby!…”
Some girls sitting next to my sister started crying and sniffling halfway through DH2 and didn’t stop until the end. As I walked out of the theatre, I gazed in wonder at the sea of mostily black robed clad persons. Some were chatting away happily, others were crying.
It is an emotional time for all us Harry Potter fans. This final movie brought it all home that there will most likely be no more official Harry Potter stories. Many of the fans in the cinema were young. They had started reading this series as children, grew up alongside the characters.
The final chapter has ended and the credits of the last movie has finished rolling. Will this be the end of the Harry Potter ‘craze’? Hell no. And it’s not a craze. It’s a modern classic (in my humble opinion) being enthusicastically celebrated by those that appreciate excellent story-telling.
I believe Harry Potter will always be part of our lives, We will read these books as bedtime stories to our children, future children and future grandchildren.
The books & movies may have come to an end but the world of Harry Potter will always be there whenever we need it.
How am I going to get to sleep tonight?
Only one more sleep and after that, life as we know it will be over!
Sister: Hey Mom, which House are you in? Are you brave?
Mom: No, I’m not.
Me: Do you prize intelligence and learning?
Mom: Yes.
Me: Are you loyal and a hard worker?
Mom: Yes, I am.
Sister: Are you cunning and ambitious?
Mom: No.
Sister: So you’re either Ravenclaw or Hufflepuff. Which do you identify with?
Mom: Ravenclaw. Not Hufflepuff.
Sister: Not Hufflepuff ay? Better be….RAVENCLAW!
Mom: Isn’t Hufflepuff where all the rejects from the other Houses go to?
